What?
The Home Archivist is a website with information for people who want to create, organize, and preserve their personal and family archives. If you’re looking for tips on how to:
- care for old photographs,
- research your family history,
- organize your books and papers,
- back up your digital data,
- and everything in between…
you’ve come to the right place!
Who?
The Home Archivist is developed and edited by Biff Hollingsworth, a professional archivist, with a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a family history enthusiast. I have experience working with donors on appraising and organizing their personal and family collections and with helping researchers find the information that they need. I have also worked on various outreach projects, many of which were based in social media. All of these experiences have made me passionate about how transformative it can be for people to document their lives, organize that record of their lives, and then share it with others.
Why?
I loved working in the archives field but I recently decided to become a stay-at-home dad. But I didn’t want to give up my day job either. “Why not do both?” I thought. So I set up this website as a way to keep sharing my knowledge, from one “home archivist” to another, and as a place where I could learn from others.
